A Whole Bunch of Money and Names

Sean John, Sean Combs, Puff Daddy, Puff, Puffy, P. Diddy, Diddy... That's a whole lot of dudes. NOT. Its one dude with a whole bunch of names and a whole bunch of money. Sean John Combs is what his mother named him, he prefers to be called Diddy today, tomorrow it might be something else but today and for the remainder of this post: he's Diddy. I've always had quite a bit of respect for Diddy. The guy is really smart, he has a lot going for him, he's talented, and all of that together means he is one very successful guy who happens to have a net worth of about $500 million dollars. A recent big topic of the media has been Mr. Diddy's son, Justin Combs who recently was awarded and accepted a football scholarship to UCLA. Justin has a 3.75 GPA, took an awesome SAT and has quite obviously worked his butt off to be a stand out football player as well, and all his hard work is somehow a problem for our society. People have the guts to call this kid selfish for taking the scholarship because his dad has more than enough money to pay for college. I learned from a very young age that before you can form an opinion about or talk about someone you have to walk a mile in their shoes. What would a walk in Justin's shoes for a day be like? I'm making a bunch of assumptions here but he probably wakes up every day and goes to school, he then goes to football practice, then he goes home and studies until he goes to bed and wakes up the next day and does it all over again. Is it fair to call a kid like that selfish? Want my opinion? No. This kid earned that scholarship, he would be dumb for not accepting it. With the attitude of his dad should just pay for it, what is the point of going to college? His dad can pay for everything for the rest of his life. Justin was obviously raised with good morals, a sense of work ethic, drive and dedication. It's selfish to say he is undeserving. He earned the scholarship like any other kid would and from the looks of it he will be working hard to earn his own living someday too, instead of mooching off his dad, who isn't paying for his college. Props to Justin!

Long time no see

Alright so my plan was to continue my blog even after class and so far I have utterly failed. Even though summer is supposed to be a break I decided to ruin my own fun in a mission to graduate sometime in the next decade. That means: taking 13 hours this summer. That's what I'm blaming my lack of blogging on. I just finished a May intercession class on Saturday. I took Public Relations Crisis Management, it was the coolest class ever and that is not sarcastic. Seriously, so interesting. We had a ton of awesome guest speakers (which was mostly what the class consisted of) including everyone from PR people from OG&E, the Oklahoma National Museum and Memorial, OKC Thunder, Sonic, OK Emergency Management, and most awesomely a field trip to the Zoo. Then today, I started Spanish 2 as an online course, and Gangs in the Media which will be interesting. I'm looking forward to it all but life's not about to slow down anytime soon. I hope everyone in the Blog World is doing great!

This Week

Finals week is never a good time.

I have to say I'm very fortunate this year, but it's still not fun.

Good luck to everyone and their studying!

My Job

The scariest part of my job, by far, is holding wedding dresses over balconies. No big deal if you drop it right?

The Lucky One

I love chick-flicks.

Totally can't wait to go see this.

The Lucky One

World Peace?

I think we are all thinking the same thing Metta World Peace isn't so peaceful.

I think this blog post from News 9's Dean Blevins says it well:

3. The one thing I've never been self-conscious of is my feet.

Another Blog

In my blogging class we are asked to interview a blogger we admire who's blog is similar to our own.  I chose Abi Martin, an OKC girl who blogs about similar things I aspire to blog about and she is awesome at it.  She has great style and has a way of writing about anything and making it interesting.  She writes a lot about photography but she also writes about daily life.  Check out her blog by clicking this link!

Elizabeth

This is Elizabeth.  She started babysitting me when I was 4 years old. I can't begin to tell you how much I looked up to her when I was growing up.

She is already the mother to a cute as can be 8 year old girl and is expecting Charles Jr. in April.  Elizabeth is as beautiful on the inside and she is on the outside. I loved taking some maternity pics for her! We took advantage of this beautiful spring weather. This pic was one of my favorites.

Dave Rhea - Guest Speaker

On Tuesday 2-28, Dave Rhea from The Journal Record (a great business newspaper for Oklahomans) came to talk to our class about blogging. He had a lot of great information to offer. Some of what I took is the following:

1. Blog consistently.  If you don't consistently post something you will lose the attention of your followers.  This tip really made me think that I should post more often.

2. Share your opinion. Don't be afraid to take a stand.  This to me is important, I am taking it in maybe a different way than Mr. Rhea may have meant.  I take it as not taking sides on controversial issues, yet I am taking this advice as sharing what I feel is important.

3. Love learning. I love this statement. No matter what you do in life this is important.  We live in a World that is constantly changing, no matter what you do for a living or just life in general, we must love learning new things to stay current.

Dave Rhea was an awesome guest and I took a lot from what he had to say.  To look at his work and the work of the other journalists at The Journal Record click here.

SO Excited

My boyfriend, Joel and I have been together for 3 years now.  2 1/2 years of that have been long distance.

This weekend, that all ends!!

It's one of those things I am so excited it's hard to focus on anything else.  All I can think about is this weekend and what is to follow.

This last 2 1/2 years has been difficult to say the least, we try to be together on the weekends but that doesn't always happen and it's hard not ever knowing where you will be on any given weekend.  When people mention plans on a weekend it's always like, hang on let me check my calendar.  It's hard to keep a relationship strong when you are together less than 2/3rds of the week most of the time.  We have learned so much about each other and how we work so well together.  Even though this time has been hard it is so worth it.

He graduated in December and got a job in OKC so that we can be together.  I am beyond excited for what is to come. It will be a definite change in lifestyle for the both of us but it will be awesome in every way.

Something we try to live by:

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."  1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Guest Speaker

On Tuesday in our Blogging class we had Dr. Hochenauer come to talk to us about blogging.  He had a lot of great advice to offer and I took a lot from his lecture.  Some of the various things I learned were:

1.  It is okay to go against the norm.  What you believe may or may not be what every one else believes but either way, it's your blog and you can talk about what ever "floats your boat."

2. You can't blog too much.

3. Do what you want with your blog.  This may sound similar to #1 but what I mean is that, if you want to make money do it, if you don't; don't. If you want to post something, do it.  It's your blog and your choices.

Dr. Hochenauer offered so much great information that it's hard to take just these things from it, but this is just what I thought was most influential.

The Advertising "New Year"

Since I am an Advertising Major I feel as if it is necessary I comment on what is the biggest advertising day of the year.  The Super Bowl was this past Sunday and every year this marks the "New Year" of commercials and sets new standards for what is to come in the next year of ads.

My favorite commercials? The countdown.

3. The VW "Get Up and Get Movin' Commercial".

Who doesn't love an exercising dog? Not to mention the new VW Bug is AWESOME!!

Get Up and Get Movin'

2. The Honda CRV- "Ferris Bueller" Commercial.

A great spin on the classic and always funny movie.

Honda CRV- Ferris Bueller

And finally my number 1 pick of the year for FAVORITE Super Bowl Commercial;

1. The M&M "Just My Shell Commercial."

So funny, great advertising, all around LOVE this commercial!

It's About Time For Some Pictures!

Some people have been asking when pictures would be posted and I have decided the procrastinating needs to stop.

Camera: Canon EOS 5D

Favorite Subjects: I love love love to capture people.  A very close second favorite would be cats.

The Story: Part of my love for photography is capturing the true emotions of people.  I love when you look at a picture and feel something just by looking into their eyes.

All You Would Ever Want To Know About Blogs

After reading about "The State of the Blogsphere" posted from Technorati.com today in class, I think it is safe to say, there are a LOT of blogs.  This website can give you tons of information about blogs, who is blogging and what they are blogging about. I think that may be a World Record for how many times the word "blog" can be used in one sentence.
There are tons of graphs and charts telling you all sorts of statistics on who the bloggers are, what their background is and basically anything you would want to know about anyone who ever blogged.
Statistics show that people are blogging more and more and this article shows that people are getting more  interested as time goes on.  I find it really interesting that so many people are blogging and even making money doing it. It is crazy that it is now not even uncommon for people to blog as a career! Now all we need is a reality show about people who blog, right?
